Local Performers
Timber Lake Playhouse encourages local talent to audition for roles in our mainstage productions and special programming. We are looking for actors of all ages from the Mount Carroll area and surrounding communities to join our 2025 season. Local actors will have opportunities to participate alongside our professional company, gaining invaluable experience in a professional theatre setting.
Mainstage Opportunities
Local actors can audition for select generational roles across our productions, similar to the generational casting outlined in our Non-Union Job-In Performers section. Some roles may include:
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER THE MUSICAL
Monty. Any age. The MC, DJ, and gatekeeper of 2001. Good-looking and charismatic with a big personality. After Tony, the coolest person in town. (Range: B2-G4)
Frank Manero. 40s-50s. Tony’s father. An out-of-work construction worker who feels like the world has turned its back on him.
Flo Manero. 40s-50s. Tony’s mother. A devout Catholic, she cares deeply for her family and especially idolizes her son, Frank Jr.
Candy. Any age. The resident singer of 2001. Sexy and confident, beloved by everybody. Strong singer/belter. (Range: A4-G5)
ROCK OF AGES
Dennis Dupree. 30s-40s. Classic stoner type who runs the famous Bourbon Room. Torn about selling the club to a German businessman. Laid back and easygoing. Very strong comedic timing and Bari-tenor rock vocals. (Range: D3-G4)
Stacee Jaxx/Father. 30s-40s. An oversexed, sexy rock star. Recently left a successful metal band to venture out solo. Arrogant and charming, his life is a merry-go-round of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. Strong comedic timing and strong rock tenor voice. (Range: C3-Eb5)
Justice/Mother. 40s-50s. A commanding presence with easy sensuality. Former performer, now operates a strip club where Sherrie ends up working. Maternal and sultry with strong soulful vocals and belt. (Range: G3-Db5)
Hertz Klinemann. 40s-60s. An older German businessman trying to buy up the Sunset Strip for development. Villainous, with a commanding presence and strong comedic timing. Must have a good German accent. Baritone vocals. (Range: F3-G#4)
WAITRESS
Becky. 40s-50s. The oldest of the waitresses. Irreverent and tough but keeps a wicked sense of humor. Must have a soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt.
Earl. 20s-30s. Jenna’s husband. Peaked in high school; handsome in a gruff way but clouded with broken dreams. Displays narcissism mixed with volatility. Guitar playing a plus.
Joe. 60s-70s. Owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. Seemingly curmudgeonly but has a soft spot for Jenna. Sarcastically funny with a no-nonsense demeanor.
Cal. 40s. Chef at the diner. A "salt of the earth" guy surrounded by gals. Brash and unsentimental yet charming. Strong pop/rock baritone voice and excellent comedic timing required.
DISNEY’S FROZEN
Olaf. Magical snowman created by Anna and Elsa when they were young. Endearingly delighted by everything, especially the idea of summer. Goofy and sweet, with excellent comic timing. (Range: F#2-D4)
Sven. Loyal and spirited reindeer who is best friends with Kristoff.
Weselton. 50s-70s. Visiting duke with a huge inferiority complex. Bombastic and overbearing, his primary goal is to hobnob with influencers and royalty. (Range: F#2-D4)
FRIENDSHIP LANDING
Karl. Age unknown. Eastern-European and incredibly mysterious. Frequently alludes to an insane past and slowly reveals he may be around 40. An absolute enigma. M1 in the shows.
Female Authority Figure. To play 40+. Portrays all the adult characters, including the director, the park executive, various parents, and the landlord of the communal house. Characters include Tammy, Robin, Muriel, Sheila, Friendship Landing V.O., etc.
THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY
Richard “Bud” Johnson. 40-50. Francesca’s husband. Diligent, dependable Iowa farmer, but exhausted and irritated that life hasn’t gotten easier. (Range: C3-F4)
Marian. 35-45. Robert’s former wife, a musician. (Range: A3-D5)
Chiara. 35-45. Francesca’s sister still living in Italy. (Range: A3-D5)
Marge. 45-60. Francesca’s nosy and sassy neighbor who brings levity to the community. (Range: G3-C5)
Charlie. 45-60. Marge’s husband, grounded and affable. (Range: E3-C4)
Note: The roles of Marian and Chiara are double-cast.
Timber Lake Playhouse will be holding an Equity Principal Audition (EPA) locally at the theatre in Mount Carroll, We encourage non-union members to attend as we would love to see you as time permits.
Young Performers
Young performers interested in featured roles and ensemble opportunities are encouraged to audition for Waitress, Frozen, and Beetlejuice Jr. See the Youth Opportunities section for detailed casting information and audition requirements.
Rehearsals and Performances
Local Performers must be available for most rehearsals and all performances. Rehearsals are typically held from 9 AM - 5 PM, excluding Mondays, with modifications based on the role and production. Performance schedules vary but usually include seven shows per week over a three-week run.
