JUNE 7-17. Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Music by Frank Loesser, Lyrics by Frank Loesser; Based on The Idyll of Sarah Brown and characters by Damon Runyon.
Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City of 1950, and considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys & Dolls soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the Save-A-Soul missionary out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rollinggambler who woos her on a bet; Miss Adelaide, the chronically sniffling nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged to one man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiance, always desperate to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game. Guys & Dolls is everything you could want in a musical comedy. RATED PG.
JUNE 21-30. Based on Working by Studs Terkel; Book by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso; Music by Stephen Schwartz, Micki Grant, Craig Carnelia, Mary Rodgers and James Taylor, Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Micki Grant, Craig Carnelia and James Taylor and Susan Birkenhead.
The hopes, dreams, joys and concerns of the average working American are the focus of this unique, extraordinary musical. That the everyday lives of “common” men and women should be so compelling and moving will surprise and inspire anyone who has ever punched a time clock. Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, the trucker, the firefighter or the housewife. It’s an uplifting and highly original look at the American landscape that’s simply impossible to forget. RATED PG13 (Strong Language).
JULY 5-15. Lyrics by Dean Pitchford,Music by Tom Snow, Stage Adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie; Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford; Additional Music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.
One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score and several new songs written for the stage version, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. RATED PG.
JULY 19-28. By Marc Camoletti, Adapted by Beverley Cross.
The Guinness World Record holder for most-performed French farce, in an a new adaptation that won the Tony Award for Best Revival of A Play in 2008, Boeing Boeing is delicious and delirious fun. Bernard, a successful architect, juggles three flight attendant fiancées. He tracks their airlines’ timetables, and his long-suffering housekeeper, Bertha, reluctantly resets the menus and bedroom decor depending on the arrivals and departures. Unfortunately for Bernard, a new, faster Boeing jet has been introduced, changing the timetable. When weather delays occur, it becomes more and more difficult for Bernard to keep the women separate, and the show soars into the stratosphere of classic physical comedy. RATED PG13.
AUGUST 2-12. Book by Joe Masteroff; Based on the play by John Van Druten and Stories by Christopher Isherwood; Music by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb.
“There was a cabaret. There was a Master of Ceremonies. There was a city called Berlin in a country called Germany. It was the end of the world, and I was dancing with Sally Bowles, and we were both fast asleep.” Kander & Ebb’s famed song and dance musical about artists living in Berlin between the wars as the Nazis were beginning to take power but life was still beautiful. Cabaret is an entertaining and thrilling experience full of showstoppers that have become classics including the title song, “Money” and “Maybe This Time.” Bob Fosse’s Academy Award winning film adaptation made a star of Liza Minnelli in the role of Sally Bowles. RATED PG 13.
AUGUST 16-26. Concept by Jeffrey B. Moss, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Music by Richard Rodgers.
More so than the songs any composer and lyricist who have written for the stage, those of Rodgers & Hammerstein have become an integral part of our everyday lives. We sing them in the shower, we dance to them in ballrooms, we hear them on the radio and in clubs. We still thrill to them on the live stage in their respective shows, and we teach them to our children. This stunning collection of compositions offers five performers an opportunity to explore the songs within their elegant own styles and sensibilities, and gives the audience a glorious parade of classic hits. RATED G (not recommended for children under 10).
